Band, Attention!  We have a chance to help keep band music education and wind band performance alive for the tens of thousands of people that have been impacted by the devastating earthquakes and tsunamis that have recently hit Japan.  Please support the JapanBandAid effort and help keep band music alive for the people of Japan.

Although school budget cuts continue to affect school music programs here in the USA, nothing can compare with the devastation in Japan caused by the recent earthquake and tsunami. Entire schools have been destroyed, along with the instruments used in school music programs. Even after the schools have been rebuilt, what about the instruments the kids need to continue their music education? I applaud JapanBandAid for their efforts in supporting Japan school band programs and encourage all who can to join in that support.

As the people of Japan continue to endure profound hardship, I have been thinking, as so many people have, about how to respond. How can artists who are far away bring solace to those who are suffering such overwhelming tragedy? In an attempt to answer that question, we have set up a YouTube channel devoted to cultural response to the devastating events in Japan, www.youtube.com/forthepeopleofjapan. I hope you'll check it out and share your thoughts, or even a video of your own.
