A Composer’s/Publisher’s Thoughts
About Field Show Music Selection - Part 1

Good afternoon,

Today I spoke with director, Pam Potter, about her 2009 show selection featured in the BandDirector.com Drill Design Project 2009. I explained to her what our Excellence for Smaller Bands series was and how it would be sophisticated and entertaining but with less instrumentation than our other shows. I think this will be a perfect fit considering her numbers!

I asked her if she had been to the gpgmusic.com website to listen to the show in our ESB catalog and she said yes. However, she expressed great interest in the Crusin’ Easy show (which was not in this line). I asked her a little about why she liked that show and I came up with the suggestion of our Gangsta Jazz show which has been redesigned for the ESB series. She immediately said she wanted to use that show and was excited it would fit her instrumentation.

I did explain to her there were “optional trumpet parts” which do not have to be played as high as the recording. I asked her if her trumpet section could handle the piece even without those because I know it is one of our more demanding shows. She listened to the sample MP3 and looked at the sample score we have online and said she thought her group could pull it off.

I then emailed Pam to set up a meeting to cover the GPG Field Show Agreement (the document that covers the license to use the music and our site-based exclusivity guarantee in detail). We will then have a meeting to cover this and once we get the completed agreement back from her, will check her show sites to ensure exclusivity and ship the music for this show!

Thank you and talk to you soon!

Spoke with Pam and got her squared away with a 4 bass drum part (the original is 5) and also created a bass guitar part for her to use. GPG is happy to assist directors like her with any special need to make their season as successful as possible!
