Litchfield Jazz Camp is celebrating 11 years this July. In addition to its usual classes; combo, master class, music theory, jazz history, composition etc., the camp introduces an intimate intensive two-week course -- The Art & Science of Recording. The class is a hands-on recording seminar for musicians and aspiring recording engineers. It will be taught by Ed Tetreault and Paul Bollenback. Mr. Tetreault is the Manager of the Peabody Conservatory Recording Arts & Sciences.  He holds a BS in Audio Engineering Technology from the University of Hartford and a MA in Recording and Production from Peabody Conservatory.  Mr. Bollenback is a world renowned jazz guitarist who has performed with Gary Bartz, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Joey DeFrancesco, Joe Locke, and many others. He teaches at Queens College, the New School, Peabody Conservatory and has been teaching at the Litchfield Jazz Camp since 1999. He also has his own jazz record label – Elephant Dreams.

Students will learn production, recording, mixing, editing and mastering techniques, using computer based recording tools. Musicians and aspiring engineers alike will gain the experience of diving into recording right away, a hands-on experience designed to teach the technical side of computer-based recording while concentrating on production of a complete, great sounding album, ready for marketing and promotion. This is a full time course, not an elective. The class is limited to ten students and students will work very closely with the instructors over the course of the two-week class. The Art & Science of Recording class will be offered during the first two sessions of the Litchfield Jazz Camp from July 8 – 13 and July 15 – 20. Students who wish to also study as music students should consider registering for sessions three and/or four.

The camp’s Music Director is Don Braden – a major figure on the jazz scene, he is also known for his compositions for Bill Cosby’s televisions projects.
