“The Woodlands H.S.” Wins the BOA 3A Nat’l Championship

Besting a field of 99 bands The Woodlands H.S. from The

Woodlands, Texas captured the Bands of America 3A National

Championship held at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The Woodlands program titled “Hide & Seek” blended the music of

Bela Bartok’s “Concerto for Orchestra” and Imogen Heap’s hit tune

“Hide & Seek” into a new age fusion that captivated both the

audience and judges. Ornamented with over 80 uniquely designed

trees the field took on a look of a playground alive with playful

characterizations of childhood playfulness and games….

Asked about The Woodlands sudden rise into the ranks of the elite

band Director Brett Johnson replied, “Besides the hard work and

dedication of our students, parents, faculty, alumni and creative

staff I’d like to tell everyone about an amazing new technique

series titled: “Technique Essentials” A Custom Symphonic &

Marching Band Warm Up. This new approach in music education

was instrumental in bringing to our staff a fresh, new approach to

teaching music fundamentals that elevated our students playing

ability to the championship level. I highly encourage bands of all

sizes and levels of expertise to implement this new and exciting

addition to the world of symphonic and marching band technique.”
