The Band of Pride Tribute is the largest marching band ever to perform in Times Square!
New York, NY (November 10, 2011) - Today, November 10th, the day before Veterans Day, The Band of Pride Tribute, comprised of over 1500 high school musicians, continued with its annual salute to the men and women who have served America, past and present, and played a medley of patriotic anthems as one mass band. The tribute concert serves to remind the nation of the sacrifices made by members of the Armed Services. In addition to those who have served in the Armed Forces, the 2011 Band of Pride Tribute is dedicated in honour and remembrance the 10th Anniversary of September 11th.
"The Band of Pride Tribute" concert led by Dr .Kenneth Dye, musical director of The University of Notre Dame took place from 7:30am-9am on Thursday, November 10th at Duffy Square in the heart of New York City's Times Square, as a way to jump start the day of remembrance and patriotism. Many of the students who performed will proudly march, on Veterans Day, in the 92nd NYC Veterans Day Parade along its historic Fifth Avenue Route in New York City.
"Performing in the run up to the NYC Veterans Day Parade helps students see the impact their music can have on the world," said Melinda Marinoff, Executive Director of The Band of Pride Tribute. "In a true display of solidarity, these students, most of whom were 4, 5 and 6 years old on September 11, 2001, will join together in Times Square, the crossroads of the world, in a performance meant to be loudly heard: they are our hope for a brighter future where peace is the norm, not violence."
The concert also included musical guest appearances by national saxophone recording artist, Shelby Brown, who opened the program with a solo of The National Anthem. The 319th Statue of Liberty Army Band and Bruce Silva, a trumpet player (Ret.) The US Army Field Jazz Band also performed.
Members of the New York community including NYPD Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly, FDNY Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano, MOVA Commissioner Terrence C. Holliday, Deputy Commissioner to The Mayor of New York, Ronald Cohen, Lee Ielpi, FDNY ( Ret.) co-founder of The Tribute Center at WTC, Wounded Warrior Project and Eileen Daly, Gold Star Mother, were in attendance and welcomed the musicians to the great city of New York.
