Honors and Remembers The 10th Anniversary of 9.11

September 11, 2011 marks the 10th Anniversary of one of the saddest days in American History. In countless events across the nation, Americans will pause to honor and remember the victims of the terrorist attacks on The World Trade Center, The Pentagon and in Shanksville, PA. Our nation will gather to commemorate the loved ones left behind, the heroic first responders, and the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces, who have sacrificed so much for all of us , before and since that tragic day. 

Fittingly, many ceremonies will take place in New York City , where the first attack occurred- and of the these special tributes will involve talented students, many of whom may have been too young to clearly remember the horrific events on that date.In a true display of solidarity, 21 high school marching bands from across the nation, and The Maastricht Community and Show Band from The Netherlands will join together in TImes Square, the crossroads of NYC and the world, in a performance intended to foster global unity, peace and compassion. 

These gifted musicians will be marching to the beat of the same drummers in "The Band of Pride's 10th Anniversary Tribute to 9/11" -a unique, one-of-a kind mass band rally, conducted by Dr. Kenneth Dye, Professor of Music, Director of Bands , the University of Notre Dame.

The full band lineup includes: Amsterdam HS, Amsterdam, NY; Bloomington HS, Bloomington, IL; Centaurus HS, South Boulder, CO; East Limestone HS, Athens, AL; Edina HS, Edina MS; Harrisonburg HS, Harrisonburg VA; J.R. Arnold HS, Panama City, FL; Lebanon HS, Lebanon, TN; Mariposa HS, Mariposa CA; Maury HS, Norfolk, VA; Mt. Union High School, Mt. Union , PA; Mountain Ridge HS, Frostburg MD; Nelson County HS, Bardstown, KY; Oregon City HS, Oregon City, OR; Parkesburg HS, Parkesburg WVA; Pickerington North HS, Pickerington , OH; Pike County HS, Zebulon GA; Seneca East HS, Attica OH; Westfield HS, Westfield MA; White Plains HS, Anniston, AL and The Maastricht Community & Show Band, Maastricht, Netherlands.

Guest speakers include: Ronald Cohen, Deputy Commission to Mayor Michael Bloomberg; Ms. Eileen Daly, Gold Star Mother of Sgt. Ronald Kubik, US Army Ranger, KIA, Lothar Afghanistan , April 23, 2010; Monte Dunnum, Director of Bands, Westby HS, President of The American School Band Directors Association; Terrance C. Holliday, Colonel, USAF, Retired; Commissioner of Veterans Affairs, The City of New York; Lee Ielpi, Retired FDNY , co-founder of The Tribute Center at WTC; Vincent McGowan, President, The United War Veterans Council of New York; and Bruce Silva, Ret. US Army Field Band, trumpet performer, and businessman. Bruce currently serves on the board of the Jazz Education Network.

The Native American Women Warriors, an all women's US Army color guard unit will be presenting colors together with The US Military, Shelby Brown, national recording artist will be playing a sax solo of The National Anthem, (Shelby has performed internationally for the US Military, entertaining troops serving in Japan, Korea, Diego Garcia and Singapore. )

Doug Green, VP of Bowl Games of America will be producing the music component of the The 10th Anniversary Tribute. Dave Knox of Banddirector.com will be webcasting LIVE from Times Square.

As part of the 2-day patriotic program, all participants will partake in a pre-Veterans Day Parade breakfast, featuring keynote speaker, Dan Daly, Ret. Chief FDNY; Immediately following breakfast, all bands will honor service by marching in the 92nd NYC Veterans Day Parade, along it's classic Fifth Avenue route.
