What to Include in Your Video Entry

Each video must begin with identification of the piece you will be performing as well as the division you are entering. In Division II (Alternative), you must also clarify what instrument you are playing (C-flute, alto flute, bass flute) and the original composer of the piece you are playing (you or another composer).

I will be performing (title of piece) in the Division I competition.

I will be performing (title of piece) written by (myself or composer name) on (C/alto/bass) flute in the Division II competition.

After completing your introduction, you may being playing. Your video should end immediately after you finish performing.

Each performance must be filmed in one continuous shot. Evidence of multiple "takes" during the performance (excluding separate takes for the introduction and performance) will result in immediate disqualification.

What not to Include in Your Video Entry

  • Opening/closing credits, either digitally or manually created. Including credits or similar enhancements may result in penalties or disqualification at the judges' discretion.
  • Visual and audio enhancements. As stated in the Rules & Regulations, any obvious or suspected manipulation of audiovisual elements will result in immediate disqualification.
  • Non-performing individuals. Please limit the number of participants appearing in your video to you and, if you utilize one, your accompanist (Division I only).
  • Action/speech outside of your introduction performance. Superfluous movement or speaking may distract from your performance and negatively influence your final score.
  • Metronome beats. An audible metronome beat will result in disqualification.

As soon as your video starts, you have five minutes to introduce play your selection. After the five minute mark, any additional performance will not be scored. Before filming your submission, please make sure you have carefully read the Rules & Regulations, Submission Guidelines, and the Schedule & Music Requirement Summary. Good luck!
