Our band has just changed directors. The new director is not very popular with his students. Thus all 12th,11th,10th,and 9th grade drumline members except myself have quit, so I am the new drum captian. I am concerned that his will destroy our drumline. This would be a great lose because our drumline is one of the best around. To make matters worse I am being told that many of the 8th graders drummers are not planning on joining. I am not sure how to fix this problem. Please, help me fix this problem.

This is the time of year that a large number of people say they are going to quit but actually many of them stay for one reason or the other. If you're the student leader of the drumline you need to keep a positive attitude (fake it 'till you make it if you have to) about the future of the band and the drumline. Keep open communications with all of the percussionists. Talk to the director and get to know him/her as a person. If that person is a dork, then focus on "the band" and "the music." If the director is a great person, then you can tell people to "give the director a chance."
What are the circumstances of changing directors? Was it in the middle of the year? Was the previous director loved, hated, etc.?
