I'm looking for any tips, tricks, or exercizes anyone has to encourage/train beginning band students to use steady airflow in their phrasing. I have quite a few beginners this year who are huffing and puffing for every single note! A few of them are even taking their mouth off of the mouthpiece between every note. Some kids use constant airflow when they are changing fingerings, but huff and puff between repeated notes of the same pitch.
It's one of those years where there are more people than usual with this problem and I would really appreciate some insights into the pedagogy of airflow, other than just continually trying to correct the behavior and present good modelling.
