About the Project

Banddirector.com and composer Kenneth Amis have come together to provide a music learning and performance opportunity for the band directors and students of Florida through the commission of a new work.

The project will showcase the creative process of the work and will include multiple live webcasts, such as:

Using available technology for long distance learning, thousands of directors and students will actively participate in real-time through Banddirector.com.  This commission project provides a unique, interactive, and communal educational opportunity for the directors and students of Florida, not withstanding the many thousands of visitors regularly visiting Banddirector.com from around the world.

Objective

Provide a music learning and performance opportunity for the directors and students of Florida through the commission of a new work by composer Kenneth Amis. The project will showcase the creative progress of the work, band rehearsals, coaching master classes, and a final live webcast student premiere performance of the work.

Participating Band Director & Ensemble: Neil Jenkins, J.P. Taravella High School band Coral Springs, Florida. Additional bands are invited to join the project.

Schedule

Banddirector.com will feature two live rehearsal master classes and the final premiere student performance of the work. Composer Kenneth Amis will provide additional coaching rehearsal sessions at the host school in addition to the live webcast dates and post frequent updates on the Banddirector.com blog page.  Check back for schedule updates! 

In-Service

In a coordinated effort with FBA, one of the live webcasts will be a teacher in-service at the host school. Communicated throughout the state to all band directors by FBA, this in-service will include an in depth band rehearsal of the commission work and a Smart Music clinic.
