Michigan School Band & Orchestra Association and Banddirector.com partnered on a new Jazz Commission piece, called Supernova. The creative process of the project was blogged on this page through the premiere of the chart at the 2009 Michigan Youth Arts Festival.
Composer Vince Corozine provided insight and samples of the composition through video, score, and audio samples. The project was also supported by several MSBOA directors: Paul Stanifer (MSBOA Ex. Dir.), Christopher Blackmer, Christopher Kauffold (MSBOA Vice President, Jazz Activities) and Max Colley, Jr.
Max Colley, Jr., Director, Grand Rapids Northview HS conducted the MYAF All-Star Jazz Band for the premiere.

Vince was a musician in the West Point Band and for ten years was an arranger for the West Point "Jazz Knights." For ten years he was music arranger and conductor of the annual Thanksgiving Parade in Philadelphia, PA, for WPVI-TV (ABC-Disney). He has studied composition with Arnold Franchetti (Hartt School of Music), Bernard Wagenaar (Julliard School of Music) and with Jimmy Giuffre in New York City. Recently, he conducted the Kunming Symphony Orchestra in Kunming, China, for the International Festival of the Arts.
