Valuable Lessons Learned at The Music School

January, 2008 Chicago, IL– The Music School, located in American Fork, Utah, successfully completed its first annual “Reed Day” on January 24, 2008. This event included a series of clinics and concerts in the jazz and classical genres for both faculty and students. The clinics were conducted by Vandoren artist Jeff Coffin for jazz saxophone and Vandoren artist consultant David Gould for classical clarinet. Attendance at this event was significant, with over 100 students and parents attending the clinics and over 200 attending the concerts.

“I love coming out here,” commented Jeff Coffin, Vandoren artist. “The students and faculty are talented and have a genuine desire to learn as much as they can and then apply it to their playing. It’s really great to watch them grow and to know that I was a part of that process.” David Gould, Vandoren artist consultant, echoed Coffin’s sentiments: “This was my first visit to this school and I’m very impressed with the level of dedication and artistry I see in the students and the faculty. This was as much fun for me as it was for them – I’m looking forward to coming back!”

Both artists performed concerts with Music School ensembles. Coffin performed with the Music School Super Band, a student big band that has drawn considerable national attention, while Gould performed with the Music School faculty string quartet and did a few solo pieces as well. An autograph session followed both concerts.

This is the first is a two part artist-in-residence series sponsored by Vandoren and its U.S. importer DANSR, inc. The series will feature Coffin again in the spring working with Jazz faculty and students, Gould working with classical faculty and students and Eric Marienthal working with the studio production students and faculty.
